Why Six Weeks, Not One Session?

Nobody would expect to run a marathon after a single training session. Nervous system regulation works the same way. It’s built through small, consistent practice, repeated regularly, not learned in one sitting and then forgotten. That’s why every Calm Coach programme is structured as a six week, layered journey, each week building on the last, rather than a single assembly or a one-off input. The tools genuinely need repetition to take hold, for children and adults alike.

EYFS (Ages 4 to 5)

Six short sessions. At this age, it’s less about understanding why and much more about building a simple, physical habit early. Children learn to place a hand on their heart, breathe slowly, and say a short, memorable rhyme together, giving them something concrete they can return to whenever they feel a bit wobbly, long before they have the words to explain what they’re feeling.

Key Stage 1 (Ages 5 to 7)

Six sessions. Children start to learn a little of the why alongside the how, understanding that feeling wobbly, cross, or a bit fizzy inside isn’t naughty or silly, it’s just their body trying to help. Alongside heart breathing, they learn the butterfly hug and a simple gratitude practice, both genuinely practical tools they can use themselves, at school or at home, whenever they need them.

Key Stage 2 (Ages 8 to 11)

Six sessions. Children learn real, age-appropriate detail about how their nervous system works, including why they sometimes feel too much all at once, or strangely flat and switched off, and that neither is a character flaw, just their body trying to protect them. They build a full toolkit of practical tools they can choose between depending on how they feel, and older children in this age group are also introduced to using these tools in a more grown-up way of their own.

Secondary Schools (KS3 to KS5, Ages 11 to 18)

Six weekly 15 minute sessions, designed to be watched together during form time or PSHE. Pupils get a genuine, respectful understanding of their own nervous system, why certain situations trigger such a strong reaction, why some days feel harder to switch off from than others, and practical tools they can use privately and discreetly, before an exam, a difficult conversation, or simply a stressful day.

Educational Staff Programme

Six weekly 15 minute sessions, designed to be watched together in a staff meeting. This programme helps staff recognise when their own stress is building, often before they’ve consciously noticed it, and gives them practical tools to respond differently in the moment. It explains why certain situations trigger such a strong reaction, and why feeling “not quite good enough” is often a nervous system pattern rather than a personal failing.

Parents and Carers Programme

Six weekly 15 minutes sessions. This programme helps you understand what’s actually happening in your body, and your child’s, in the moments that feel hardest, the meltdown before school, the silent treatment after an argument, the day everything feels like too much for both of you. You’ll learn to recognise the early signs of stress in your own body, before it turns into snapping, shutting down, or losing your patience, and you’ll come away understanding why you, and your child, react the way you do, so it stops feeling like a mystery.

Corporate Programme

Eight weekly 20 minute sessions, delivered as pre-recorded video, available to any organisation for an optional contribution towards the wider work of The Calm Coach. This programme helps employees recognise when their own stress is building, often before they’ve consciously noticed it, and gives them practical tools to respond differently in the moment, rather than just getting through the day and hoping tomorrow is easier. It explains why certain situations trigger such a strong reaction, and why switching off at the end of the working day can feel so hard.

A Note on Daily Practice

Alongside every weekly session, I recommend playing a short daily audio recording of the heart breathing practice, whether that’s with a class, with your own child, or on your own. It works just as well as a calming way to wind down before bed as it does at any other point in the day.
